I knew I was coming for the course record, but fortunately [I broke] the world record.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I am very happy.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;A world record was not in my mind today &#8230; but I knew one day I would be a world-record holder.&quot;\ufeff<\/p>\n<p>Until Monday morning, the Berlin Marathon had been the scene of the last eight men&#x27;s marathon world-record runs, and not since 2002 had the men&#x27;s world record been broken away from the Berlin Marathon.<\/p>\n<p>In Monday\ufeff morning&#x27;s Chicago Marathon, Kiptum posted 60:48 for the first half and 59:47 for the second.<\/p>\n<p>He finished four minutes and 27 seconds ahead of Kenya&#x27;s Benson Kipruto (2:04:02), with Belgium&#x27;s Bashir Abdi (2:04:32) rounding out the podium.\ufeff<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"04247513-745a-44cb-a0b1-875c77c9f940\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/04247513-745a-44cb-a0b1-875c77c9f940-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Kelvin Kiptum stopped the clock at two hours and 35 seconds in the Chicago Marathon.\" data-width=\"5591\" data-height=\"3727\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the women&#x27;s race, \ufeffSifan Hassan of the Netherlands took victory and registered the second-fastest time by a woman in history, stopping the clock at 2:13:44.<\/p>\n<p>In another emphatic reminder of her remarkable range, she did so just six weeks after winning a bronze medal over 1500 metres at the world athletics championships in Budapest.\ufeff<\/p>\n<p>Kenya&#x27;s Ruth Chepngetich finished second in 2:15:37 and Ethiopia&#x27;s\ufeff Megertu Alemu came home third in 2:17:09.<\/p>\n<p>Switzerland&#x27;s Marcel Hug stormed to victory in the men&#x27;s wheelchair race in the time of 1:22:37, finishing eight minutes and 57 seconds ahead of the USA&#x27;s Daniel Romanchuk, who finished second in 1:31:34.
