Australian swim star Shayna Jack<\/a> has revealed she came close to taking her own life in the wake of the positive test that rubbed her out of the sport for two years.<\/p>\n

Jack was initially suspended for four years after testing positive to the prohibited substance ligandrol<\/a> – "an anabolic agent" – in July 2019 before the FINA World Championships in South Korea.<\/p>\n

The ban was eventually reduced to two years by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Sport Integrity Australia (formerly known as ASADA) and the World Anti-Doping Authority (WADA) appealed that decision before the appeal was dismissed by CAS<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jack was cleared to return to swimming in September 2021<\/a>, but not before enduring some heartache.<\/p>\n

\"FUKUOKA,<\/p>\n

"I was home alone, I had my dogs, my partner was at training and I was done," she told News Corp.<\/p>\n

"I was done with the process. I was done with life.<\/p>\n

"And boy, did it scare me."<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old said she began seeing a psychiatrist in the wake of her mental health battle, calling it "the best thing that I ever did".<\/p>\n

"I recognised that this is not who I am," she said.<\/p>\n

\"Swim<\/p>\n

"Whether I swim or not, whether I get through this process or not, I don't give up on life."<\/p>\n

Jack has enjoyed a successful return to the pool since serving her ban.\ufeff<\/p>\n

She took out one gold medal and a silver medal at the 2022 World Championships in Budapest, before adding three golds at this year's Championships in Fukuoka to go along with two more silvers.<\/p>\n

Jack also excelled at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, winning a gold medal, a silver medal and a bronze medal.<\/p>\n
