Afghanistan<\/a> has been crushed by Bangladesh<\/a> in their opening group stage match at the World Cup<\/a>, with the woeful outing summed up by a blunder that had commentators scratching their heads.<\/p>\n

Bangladesh won the contest by six wickets after bowling Afghanistan out for 156, with captain Shakib Al Hasan collecting 3-30.<\/p>\n

But it was Afghanistan tailender Mujeeb Ur Rahman who was in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, after coming out to bat without wearing a box\ufeff or an athletic protector.<\/p>\n

Ex-Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden \ufeffwas brought to laughter the Mujeeb quickly signalled for the 12th man to come to his rescue.<\/p>\n

"Well, that's a mistake at any given time of the day. That should be the first thing that you put in your package," said Matthew Hayden on Fox Cricket coverage.<\/p>\n

Commentator, former Kiwi paceman Simon Doull, \ufeffdidn't hold back on his assessment of the blunder.<\/p>\n

"That is proper village stuff, that," he said.<\/p>\n

"You can't hide it, chief, we all know. He's trying to hide in his hand. You can't hide it. We all know what's going on.<\/p>\n

"Oh Mujeeb, you're lucky it's a spinner on."<\/p>\n

\ufeffMeantime, Bangladesh took complete control, led by off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who took 3-25, then made 57 with bat in hand.<\/p>\n

Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz made 47 runs, but he seemed the only shining light with bat in hand.<\/p>\n

Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi spoke of his disappointment post match.<\/p>\n

"We had a good start but at the middle after fall of first wicket, we had bad shot selection, but their bowlers bowled very tight," Shahidi said.<\/p>\n

"I think we fought well (in the field) but the score wasn't enough."<\/p>\n
