Junior Paulo<\/a>'s major statement win over Ben Hannant<\/a> has come in controversial circumstances with the fight's referee coming under scrutiny for not calling it off early.<\/p>\n

In the opening exchanges of the first round, Paulo \ufeffdropped Hannant with a brutal right hook, but the former Queensland State of Origin prop managed to survive the count.<\/p>\n

The former Broncos, Cowboys and Bulldogs prop then looked shaky and was easily pushed down again a minute into the first round<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Copping a flurry of punches, Hannant's team threw in the towel 30 seconds later. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Many believed the fight should've been called off immediately after the first knockdown. \ufeff<\/p>\n

\"Ben<\/p>\n

"There's nothing worse than a brave corner or a referee that cannot control what's happening," commentator Andy Raymond said on Stan Sport's coverage.<\/p>\n

"These aren't professional boxers fighting for million-dollar purses, these are rugby league guys having a crack in a boxing ring. And that is crap."<\/p>\n

Australian-title winning boxer Demsey McKean agreed.<\/p>\n

"I think we'd seen enough after that first knockdown, he wasn't on steady legs when he got back up," McKean said.<\/p>\n

"I think that should have been waved off, let alone after the second knockdown."<\/p>\n

Professional boxer Michael Zerafa believed it was a "poor decision" as Hannant suffered his third loss, after previously fighting Justin Hodges and Paul Gallen.<\/p>\n

"That was a poor decision by the referee, he was out on his feet and he couldn't even walk straight," he said.<\/p>\n
