L\ufeffYON:<\/strong> The All Blacks<\/a> are sweating on Tyrel Lomax's knee injury as they await their opponent in the Rugby World Cup<\/a> quarter-finals.<\/p>\n

New Zealand clipped its ticket for the quarters in Paris \ufeff(October 15-16 AEDT) with a 73-0 shutout of Uruguay in Lyon on Friday (AEDT).<\/a><\/p>\n

Sunday's (AEDT) blockbuster Ireland vs Scotland pool clash<\/a> will dictate the last eight match-up \ufeffas the All Blacks also await the result of Lomax's scans.<\/p>\n

The first choice tighthead prop limped off OL Stadium early in the first half in his first match back as a starter since recovering from a gruesome cut to his \ufeffthigh that required 30 stitches.<\/p>\n

"It doesn't look too bad, it looks like a medial (ligament injury)," All Blacks coach Ian Foster told reporters.<\/p>\n

"He has a bucket load of ice on it right now and we'll look at that over the next 48 hours…. it looks like a small strain."<\/p>\n

Lomax is the son of Kiwi league legend Johnny \ufeffwho was once picked in a Wallabies squad but didn't take the field.<\/p>\n

New Zealand have multiple options to replace Lomax as the No.3, including Fletcher Newell \ufeffwho suffered his own knee injury in Lyon.<\/p>\n

Foster said the withdrawal \ufeffof Newell – who scored his first Test try against Uruguay – "was largely precautionary".<\/p>\n

The much maligned coach was also asked whether blowouts could make teams underprepared for World Cup knockout matches.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It is what it is. We can't control things when it comes to the draw, people weren't saying that after the French game, they were saying that we were struggling," Foster said.<\/p>\n

"Even before the Italian game (96-17 win), that was going to be a massive challenge for us. I think we have put ourselves under pressure to play well. I think it is a very motivated team at the moment. We know we aren't perfect, we still have places to grow.<\/p>\n

\"New\u00a0Zealand\u00a0vs\u00a0Uruguay\u00a0RWC\u00a0highlights\"<\/p>\n

"We are really confident on the areas (that are important) in a tight game. There are different pathways to the quarters, some teams have a hard game beforehand.<\/p>\n

"For us, that first 20 minutes was pretty tough and we showed a different sort of patience.<\/p>\n

"It is what it is and at the end of the pool play, we are satisfied."<\/p>\n

Foster claimed he wasn't fussed about the quarter-final opponent despite the most likely candidate being world No.1 Ireland – which has largely had New Zealand's measure in recent seasons.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"We will go away and have a nice glass of wine in our hotel tonight and celebrate being there," Foster said.<\/p>\n

"Looking forward to recovery tomorrow. Clearly we have a plan for whoever it may be. At this stage we are excited about us being there, it is our first goal achieved and let's get into the next one."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
