South African<\/a> assistant coach Felix Jones believes Scotland are at their "most dangerous" when underestimated \u2013 and could yet spring an upset.<\/p>\n

The world No.5 team comes into their last must-win pool match against Ireland as bona fide underdogs.<\/p>\n

Scotland haven't beaten Ireland since the 2017 Six Nations and haven't put more than 20 points on them since 2001 \u2013 the margin needed to ensure Ireland and Scotland progress at South Africa's expense.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For the Springboks, their fate at the Rugby World Cup is completely out of their hands \u2014 and despite the aforementioned record, they're not downplaying the possibility of an upset result.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We just want to get through ourselves," said Jones.<\/p>\n

"I think there's 20-odd possible scenarios and one of them can result in us being knocked out.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We're just hoping we get one of the ones where we actually go through to the knockout stages."<\/p>\n

Like most, Jones is expecting Ireland to edge out Scotland.<\/p>\n

The world No.1 team remains unbeaten this year and narrowly beat South Africa in a titanic tussle.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jones, however, noted Scotland's ability to pull results out of the bag.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"Scotland<\/p>\n

"If you look at it on paper and you look at form and you look at Ireland being the number one team over the last \u2013 however many Test matches now they are in a row \u2013 you would probably say that it looks like Ireland that would be the favourites," Jones added.<\/p>\n

"But I've seen it so many times growing up in the northern hemisphere and playing all my rugby in the northern hemisphere that as soon as you write Scotland off, or a Scottish team like Glasgow or Edinburgh, that's when they're almost at their most dangerous.<\/p>\n

"Scotland are in fantastic form. They've proven now in their last two games that they have an ability to score points as well as any attacking team. I think it's going to be a really tight game."<\/p>\n

Scotland lost its opening pool match against South Africa (18\u20133) before winning against Tonga (45-17) and Romania (84-0).<\/p>\n
