Daniel Ricciardo<\/a> will have to wait another few weeks to make his Formula 1<\/a> return.<\/p>\n

The AlphaTauri<\/a> driver is reportedly set to miss the Qatar Grand Prix on October 8 with New Zealand's Liam Lawson to retain his place as injury cover.<\/p>\n

Ricciardo suffered a broken hand at the Dutch Grand Prix<\/a> in just his second race upon returning to F1 after being sacked by McLaren<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He missed the race in the Netherlands and subsequent outings in Italy, Singapore, and Japan.<\/p>\n

According to multiple reports, Ricciardo has decided to miss the forthcoming sprint and grand prix in Qatar before making a return at the United States Grand Prix.<\/p>\n

That event at Circuit of the Americas takes place on October 21-23.<\/p>\n

Racer reports unforeseen issues on Friday could have disrupted the rest of the weekend if Lawson was called upon, with a sprint on Saturday and the grand prix on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, the team's head of trackside engineering said Ricciardo was still in the recovering phase.<\/p>\n

"We're still talking a while away, so we wouldn't want to put a target on it," said Jonathan Eddolls.<\/p>\n

"The recovery is going well. We've got some simulator work planned before a return.<\/p>\n

\"Liam<\/p>\n

"I think from our side and his side, there's no rush to get him back too early.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"The worst thing would be to come back before it's properly healed and cause any issues. So, watch this space.<\/p>\n

"The simulator is a very good representation of the car, all of the loads, et cetera. I think the final decision is more than likely going to come from him rather than from us.<\/p>\n

"He will know better than anyone how is the pain and how is the recovery.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We're not putting him under pressure to come back. We've got a pool of three good drivers at the moment, so there's no big rush.<\/p>\n

"The focus is on him making a full recovery so that when he comes back, it's not a point that's even talked about."<\/p>\n

Despite the extended absence, Ricciardo's place at AlphaTauri isn't under threat.<\/p>\n

In Japan, the team confirmed he'll return in 2024 alongside teammate Yuki Tsunoda.<\/p>\n

There has been persistent chatter that Ricciardo could find himself promoted to Red Bull's lead team if Sergio Perez does not improve his performance next year.<\/p>\n
