Collingwood<\/a> coach Craig McRae<\/a>\ufeff has opened up on the reason he won't wear his premiership medal after his side overcame Brisbane by four points in an instant classic grand final<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The senior coach, who took the Magpies from 17th on the ladder to a premiership believes his Jock McHale coaching medal "doesn't represent" all those behind the scenes who help the club win their 16th flag.<\/p>\n

McRae, who announced on stage after the win that his wife had given birth to their daughter Maggie on the morning of the grand final<\/a>, says there needs to be another way to honour those coaches who have contributed.<\/p>\n

"They gave this (the Jock McHale Medal) to me on stage and I haven't worn it since because it doesn't represent all the coaches," McRae said on AFL360 on Monday night.<\/p>\n

"It's ridiculous that the industry just sees me as the reason. That cup is representative of all our staff. Players get medals and win premierships, but staff set them up to succeed."<\/p>\n

As for his players who missed out on playing in Collingwood's premiership, but have been a major part of their journey to the pinnacle, McRae wants them to be honoured too.<\/p>\n

Key forward Dan McStay was heartbreakingly ruled out of the grand final after suffering a high grade medial knee strain<\/a> in Collingwood's one-point preliminary final win over GWS.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I'm definitely of the view, we don't make the grand final without Dan McStay," McRae said on AFL 360 on Monday night.<\/p>\n

Other Collingwood stalwarts who missed out included veteran Taylor Adams who suffered a hamstring flare up<\/a> during their qualifying final win over Melbourne.<\/p>\n

Meantime, John Noble was also axed from the Magpies' side on the eve of finals<\/a>, after not missing a game since his debut in 2019.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"My feeling is they should get a medal. To what length, I'm not sure. I'll leave others to debate that," McRae said.<\/p>\n

"But I think if you played a game in the season that should be a measurement of it. Dan McStay, Taylor Adams, John Noble \u2014 that cup isn't there without them."<\/p>\n

It comes after his premiership ruckman Mason Cox<\/a> expressed his anger surrounding his teammates missing out on receiving medals if they didn't play in the grand final.<\/a><\/p>\n
