Port Adelaide legend Kane Cornes<\/a> has questioned the 2023 Norm Smith Medal votes, \ufeffconfident that Collingwood<\/a> midfielder Tom Mitchell was "disrespected" on grand final day.<\/p>\n

The Magpies went on to defeat Brisbane\ufeff by four points to win the premiership<\/a>, with Collingwood goal sneak Bobby Hill winning the Norm Smith Medal<\/a> for his four-goal haul.<\/p>\n

Despite Hill's \ufeffbest on ground performance, Cornes said Mitchell's 24 disposals, seven clearances and a massive 13 tackles added up to the most impressive individual performance on Saturday.<\/p>\n

"I thought Tom Mitchell was a little disrespected in the Norm Smith medal voting," Cornes said on AFL Trade Radio on Monday.<\/p>\n

"He was outstanding."<\/p>\n

Bobby Hill received maximum votes, with the entire panel awarding him three votes of a possible three each, in a unanimous decision.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Mitchell only received three votes (a two and a one vote).\ufeff<\/p>\n

Sarah Olle, who was on the Norm Smith voting panel, reflected on her picks.<\/p>\n

She lauded Mitchell's game changing performance, which not only saw him collect disposals, but more importantly saw him minimise 2023 Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale's impact.<\/p>\n

"Tom Mitchell had an incredible game and I didn't give him any votes. He ended up with three from the panel," Olle said on SEN Radio on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\"Tom<\/p>\n

"The other one was Scott Pendlebury, who ended up with one vote. I thought he was sensational in that final term.<\/p>\n

"But at the end of the day, everyone gave Bobby Hill three votes.<\/p>\n

"So the twos and the ones, it's a nice accolade to have five or four or three votes against your name for a Norm Smith.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Mitchell's journey to winning his first premiership was threatened just a week before the Magpies reached the pinnacle.<\/p>\n

During the warm up of their preliminary final against\ufeff the Giants, Mitchell tweaked his back and was fearful of missing his first game all season.<\/p>\n

"I was touch-and-go to take the field in the last minute there, just before that game," Mitchell told AAP.<\/p>\n

"I pulled up a bit ginger the next morning and had an injection straight after that.<\/p>\n

"That's part of footy. Everyone's carrying little injuries and you've just got to find a way to push through it."<\/p>\n

Despite the attention he is receiving for his stellar grand final performance, Mitchell, who was traded from Hawthorn in the off-season\ufeff, remains humble in victory.<\/p>\n

"I just wanted to come in and play my role and play to my strengths," Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

"Moments like right now, you never think anything like this could ever happen, so it's pretty special."<\/p>\n

Mitchell, who began his career at Sydney, before winning a Brownlow at Hawthorn in 2018, played every game of Collingwood's 2023 season.\ufeff<\/p>\n
