World No.2 Simona Halep has avoided a huge second round upset after being tested by Australian Ajla Tomljanovic.<\/p>\n

Halep tonight dropped the opening set and was forced to work her way back into the match, with a relentless Tomljanovic proving a difficult task for the two-time Grand Slam winner.<\/p>\n

Still looking to add an Australian Open title to her trophy cabinet, Halep looked destined to fall short when she trailed 5-3 in the third set as Tomljanovic served for the match.<\/p>\n

But the Romanian superstar somehow found a way, breaking back to ultimately avoid a major upset and win 4-6, 6-4, 7-5<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"Actually I was expecting that she would play very hard and strong," Halep said after the match.<\/p>\n

"It was more than I thought. I'm really happy I can smile now."<\/p>\n

While the loss for Tomljanovic was a hard one to deal with, admitting she couldn't take too much from the match after letting a golden opportunity slip. <\/p>\n

"It's hard, very hard to talk about it right now and see any sort of positives," she told reporters.<\/p>\n

"At the end of the day, all I wanted to do is just get a win in any way, even if it was the worst tennis ever. I think that's my emotions speaking now.<\/p>\n

\"Ajla<\/p>\n

"I know it was a high-level match, but in the end, I lost – so that's kind of what's the dominant feeling.<\/p>\n

"I did feel like I was incredibly close. But at the same time, I knew she would never give it to me easy. She did exactly what I expected.<\/p>\n

"She raised her level. Didn't give me much till the end."<\/p>\n
