A freak injury during post-season celebratory drinks \ufeffhas led to shoulder surgery for Callum Mills<\/a>, with the Sydney Swans<\/a> co-captain now in doubt for the start of the next AFL<\/a> season.<\/p>\n

The Swans confirmed the star midfielder, who's played 155 games for Sydney, had surgery last week.<\/p>\n

He reportedly suffered the injury while wrestling with a teammate during Mad Monday celebrations.<\/p>\n

"Losing players to injury in the off-season is always disappointing," Swans football boss Charlie Gardiner said in a statement.<\/p>\n

"Callum is our captain and an important member of the squad. We are extremely disappointed this injury has occurred.<\/p>\n

"Callum is equally disappointed, as you can imagine, but he is recovering well and will get to work on his rehabilitation immediately."<\/p>\n

The Swans have not put a timeline on Mills' injury\ufeff but his rehabilitation will undoubtedly take place throughout the pre-season, if not the start of the 2024 season.<\/p>\n

It's not the first time Mills has succumbed to injury in unusual circumstances.\ufeff<\/p>\n

He missed most of the 2018 season when he broke his foot while throwing an American football with teammates on the way back from a cafe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
