LYON:<\/strong> Eddie Jones insists he is the right man to continue coaching the Wallabies despite a record 40-6 capitulation against Wales.<\/a><\/p>\n

The embarrassing result will almost certainly mean Australia misses the quarter-finals for the first time in 10 Rugby World Cups.<\/a><\/p>\n

It comes after Jones reportedly interviewed for the Japan coaching job just days before the tournament in France kicked off.<\/a><\/p>\n

Jones said "I don't know what you're talking about mate" when asked about the Sydney Morning Herald report and said he was "100 per cent committed" to Australian rugby.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"While at the moment it might look like a shambles, I can guarantee it's not," Jones said, while apologising to Wallabies fans.<\/p>\n

"I came back to Australia trying to help. At the moment I am not giving much help, am I? But that doesn't mean my commitment to helping has changed.<\/p>\n

"I am a proud Australian, I hate to see Australian rugby do as poorly as we have been doing, particularly under my reign.<\/p>\n

"It's not only the Wallabies we have got to improve, we've got to treat the whole system of Australian rugby. It's not an excuse but we've got to have a really good look at ourselves and see what we've got to do to improve."<\/p>\n

Jones has a 1-7 record with the Wallabies since returning as coach in January.<\/p>\n

He repeatedly said the Wallabies could – and would – win the World Cup but that bravado is now laughable.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Wallabies captain Dave Porecki was understandably shattered after a nightmare in just his second game as skipper.<\/p>\n

"I don't have much to say, I'm embarrassed for the Aussie people," Porecki said.<\/p>\n

"We were hoping to put a show on. It just wasn't good enough. We've got to front up next week. This one hurts… we'll do the review later. Just gutted at the moment, I've got to get round the boys and get ready for next week."<\/p>\n
