NSW Rugby League<\/a> boss David Trodden has blasted the scathing criticism of Brad Fittler<\/a> as "pretty cheap" as\ufeff the Blues coach fights to save his job.<\/p>\n

On the back of NSW slumping to its second consecutive series defeat this year, advisor Greg Alexander<\/a> and assistant coach Paul McGregor resigned from their posts this week.<\/p>\n

A call is yet to be made on whether Fittler will receive a new 12-month contract and extend his Blues coaching career into a seventh year.<\/p>\n

Results and team decisions saw the legendary Blues playmaker draw a barrage of criticism this year, but Trodden defended Fittler on 2GB's The Continuous Call Team<\/em> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

"Everybody understands that there's a win-loss ledger," Trodden said.<\/p>\n

"Freddy is a great leader, as Laurie [Daley] was, as well, who've delivered so much not just for NSW rugby league but for the whole game, and those things can't be discarded when you consider appointments moving forward.<\/p>\n

"Some of the criticism of Freddy this year has been pretty cheap."<\/p>\n

Among the selection calls that sparked rampant criticism this year were the axing of Nicho Hynes after game one<\/a>, the shock selection of Tevita Pangai Junior for the opening match<\/a> and the failure to pick Cody Walker until the series was decided<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Several in-game calls also set people off, including the decision to replace Tom Trbojevic in the centres with Damien Cook<\/a> when the Manly gun suffered a pectoral injury early in game two.<\/p>\n

Alexander said on SEN radio this week that he'd "had enough" of his involvement with the Blues, before giving Fittler his blessing.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Freddy wants to continue and I certainly wish him well," Alexander said on SEN radio.<\/p>\n

"When Freddy asked me if I wanted to go again and you hesitate \u2014 it's not a job you hesitate on."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
