Kane Cornes<\/a>\ufeff has unloaded over the umpiring in the AFL<\/a> preliminary finals, saying the whistleblowers failed to pay free kicks that would have been awarded during the regular season.<\/p>\n

The Port Adelaide great aired his frustrations as vision rolled out on Nine's AFL Sunday Footy Show\ufeff<\/em>, following Collingwood's one-point win over Greater Western Sydney<\/a> and Brisbane's 16-point triumph over Carlton<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He called for consistency in umpiring across the regular season and finals.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Don't ever let the AFL, the umpires, anyone tell you they don't put their whistles away in finals because I've never seen anything like it," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

"These are decisions that would be paid in the home-and-away season that weren't paid in finals.<\/p>\n

"That one there, that's just a free kick," he said as a replay rolled through of Nick Daicos collecting Toby Greene high.<\/p>\n

"That is just an absolute free kick every day of the week."<\/p>\n

A replay was then shown of Daicos driving Brent Daniels' head into the MCG turf.<\/p>\n

"This an absolute free kick every day of the week," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

As Scott Pendlebury pulled Daniels' right arm, Daicos drove the GWS small forward's head into the ground while tackling him from behind.<\/p>\n

Daniels did not feature in the final five minutes of the game, having been forced from the field for a head injury assessment, which he passed.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The match review officer cleared Daicos, who's expected to claim his first Brownlow Medal on Monday, to play in next Saturday's grand final between the Magpies and Lions.<\/p>\n

Cornes also called out the failure to penalise Brody Mihocek for a high tackle on Connor Idun.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThat is a free kick, so don't let them tell you they don't put their whistles away," said the former 300-gamer.<\/p>\n

Cornes then took a look at Brisbane's clash with Carlton at the Gabba, beginning with vision of Zac Bailey interfering with Sam Walsh as the gun Blue\ufeff dashed up the ground after receiving a 50-metre penalty.<\/p>\n

As Bailey was running in Walsh's path, the All-Australian on-baller collided into him and fell.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThis is a double 50 every day of the week in the home-and-away season," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

"Bailey has to get out of that area; he is restricting Walsh from playing on. That is a double 50."<\/p>\n

The last incident Cornes flagged saw play continue despite Nic Newman struggling with an eye injury near a contest.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThis one \u2014 Newman's down," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

"All year that's been stopped. Stop play.<\/p>\n

"He is in the way, he is injured."<\/p>\n

Cornes called for consistency in umpiring.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Look, if that's the way, I don't mind it," he said of umpires overlooking a series of free kicks.<\/p>\n

"I actually like it with fewer free kicks.<\/p>\n

"But let's have the same for finals as we do in the home-and-away season.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Luke Hodge also hit out at the umpiring on SEN radio\ufeff<\/a>, describing the officiating in the Magpies-Giants clash as "pathetic".<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
