Just days after he was dumped from England<\/a>'s World Cup<\/a> squad, Jason Roy<\/a> has sensationally rejected a recall to the side.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Roy, who starred in England's 2019 World Cup victory, was named in the provisional squad of 15 in August, but was replaced by Harry Brook earlier this week.<\/p>\n

England selector Luke Wright said the "tough" decision was due to Roy's lack of match fitness, and Brook's ability to both open or bat lower in the order.<\/p>\n

Roy was in the squad for England's four-ODI series against New Zealand<\/a> that wrapped up last week, but didn't play a game after suffering back spasms.<\/p>\n

While Roy is a white-ball veteran of 116 ODIs and 64 T20s, along with five Tests, the 24-year-old Brook has played just five ODIs, 24 T20s, as well as 12 Tests.<\/p>\n

Roy has also played more white-ball games for England than any other player since the 2019 World Cup. The decision could mean the end of his career.<\/p>\n

Wright also admitted he had indicated to the squad ahead of the New Zealand series they were the players who would be on the plane to India.<\/p>\n

"We have selected a squad we are confident can go to India and win the World Cup," he said.<\/p>\n

"We are blessed with an incredibly strong group of white-ball players which was underlined by the performances in the series win against a very good New Zealand team.<\/p>\n

"The strength of the group has meant that we have had to make some tough decisions on world-class players with Jason Roy missing out and Harry Brook coming into the squad."\ufeff<\/p>\n

But less than a week after that snub, Roy was asked to return to the England side for the final two matches of their ongoing series against Ireland with former skipper Joe Root set to be rested.<\/p>\n

Root was being given the first game of the Ireland series to find form, having scored just 39 runs from four innings against New Zealand, but that game in Headingley was a complete washout with not a ball bowled.<\/p>\n

Captain Jos Buttler indicated the Ireland series was a chance for Roy to bat his way back into the squad, and he would remain the top-order reserve.<\/p>\n

Roy's rejection opens the door for Tom Kohler-Cadmore to make his England debut, four years after he was told he would not be considered for England selection.<\/p>\n

In 2019, Kohler-Cadmore was fined \u00a32000 for bringing the game into disrepute for his participation in a sexist WhatsApp group chat uncovered during the rape trial of former Worcesterchire teammate Alex Hepburn.<\/p>\n

Kohler-Cadmore is an aggressive batter who can also keep wicket.\ufeff<\/p>\n

England's second game against Ireland is at Trent Bridge on Saturday night (AEST).<\/p>\n
