Australian punter Arryn Siposs<\/a> has been axed by the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a>\ufeff with the team signing a new player in a brutal early season move all too common in the NFL<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Siposs' time with the reigning NFC champions came to an end after two seasons and two weeks into the new season, with the Eagles replacing the Melburnian after the team's second win over Minnesota on Friday AEST.<\/p>\n

The news may have come as a surprise to outsiders, with the team\ufeff going unbeaten to start the year, but the Eagles have not been as impressive as their breakout season in 2022.<\/p>\n

Looking to move on from his botched punt from last year's Super Bowl, Siposs beat out his competition at training camp, but did not make the initial 53-man roster.<\/p>\n

The Eagles signed him to the practice squad and then elevated him to the active roster for the first two weeks of the season.\ufeff<\/p>\n

He averaged 43.4 yards overall and 38.4 net yards on eight punts in two games, which are career lows for the former AFL player in each category.<\/p>\n

"We thought that Arryn did a good job in training camp and was growing. So we felt like we were ready to go into the season with Arryn in there," Philadelphia coach Nick Sirianni said. "After two weeks, we decided we wanted to make a change."<\/p>\n

The Eagles signed New York Jets punter Braden Mann to the practice squad in response to Siposs' axing.<\/p>\n

The Jets waived Mann ahead of the season then the Pittsburgh Steelers claimed him four days later. Mann was then released by the Steelers a week out from the season.<\/p>\n

"We liked his punts when he was here and his [placekicking] holds and everything," Sirianni said of Mann.<\/p>\n

"So we were confident in the decision for that to happen now. We've got a little bit of a longer week to make sure the operation is clean. That's why it is the way it is right now."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
