Australian golfer<\/a> Cameron Davis<\/a> fell just short of taking home a $\ufeff2.35 million winner's cheque, but produced a moment of brilliance to wow the crowd at the Fortinet Championship.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old from Sydney found himself locked in a thrilling fourth day in California \ufeffas he chased runaway leader Sahith Theegala.<\/p>\n

Theegala and Davis were paired together and they engaged in an exciting shootout, but it was the American who ultimately won the tournament by finishing 21-under.<\/p>\n

But it was Davis who drew loud cheers from the walking spectators when he eagled the 12th hole.<\/p>\n

The Aussie found himself well off the green and just centimetres from the edge of a cart path after his wayward approach, but still had three shots to play with to make his par.<\/p>\n

He only needed one more shot, though, as he took a wedge and finessed the ball to the front of the green, allowing it to roll on and into the cup.<\/p>\n

"He had to get so steep on that because of the raised edge of the cart path\ufeff, bounces it into that slope and right into the hole."<\/p>\n

Davis also holed a long putt for birdie later in his round and finished the event \ufeffin solo third at 17-under, four shots behind Theegala and two behind runner-up Seong-hyeon Kim.<\/p>\n

"It was an awesome week. I really enjoyed everything about this week\u00a0actually," Davis told media after the tournament.<\/p>\n

"Just didn't quite get off to a really good start today which kind of threw me so far off that I wasn't really a contender anymore.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

"It was awesome to watch how well Sahith played today. He did everything he needed to do\u00a0 to get the job done today.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Davis confirmed he will head back Down Under to play the Australian PGA Championship and the Australian Open in November.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Davis, the 2017 Australian Open champion, has only won once on the PGA Tour since joining in 2019.<\/p>\n
