A moment of indecision condemned Australia's<\/a> hopes against Fiji<\/a> when Carter Gordon and Mark Nawaqanitawase got their wires crossed.<\/p>\n

Neither player committed to taking the aerial ball and let it bounce, allowing Josua Tuisova to pounce and sprint away from the Wallabies (video above).<\/p>\n

That was the decisive blow in the 22-15 match, which fell the way of Fiji<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Australia's hopes hang in the balance with Wales to come on September 25 before \ufeffPortugal on October 2.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, South Africa steamrolled Romania with 11 tries to romp to a 76-0 win.<\/p>\n

Cobus Reinach and Makazole Mapimpi each scored three tries for the Springboks while Grant Williams claimed two of his own.<\/p>\n

Ireland still leads Pool B on 10 points ahead of South Africa on nine. Scotland and Tonga have only played one match apiece so far and remain pointless.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The day wound up with England taking on Japan. Given the recent run of form of both teams, it was anyone's guess how that match would play out.<\/p>\n

Japan kept England honest in the first half, and after 54 minutes it was a one-point game in favour of England.<\/p>\n

However, the final quarter of the game was all about England as they ran in three late tries to seal a fairly convincing 32-12 win.\u00a0<\/p>\n

England sits atop Pool D on nine points ahead of Samoa on five. Japan also has five points but is behind on points difference.\u00a0<\/p>\n
