Matthew Lloyd<\/a> \ufeffhas expressed concerns over Melbourne<\/a>'s worrying finals record\ufeff that may "haunt" the Demons, after their second consecutive straight-sets exit on Friday.<\/p>\n

The Demons went down to Carlton by just two points<\/a>, in a match that Lloyd believes \ufeffwas Melbourne's to lose. It was also the Demons' fourth finals loss in a row.<\/p>\n

"This will haunt Melbourne, another straight-sets finals loss," Lloyd said on Nine's AFL Sunday Footy Show.<\/em><\/p>\n

"They should have won this game. They had Carlton on the ropes.<\/p>\n

"They kicked 2.6 in the last quarter\ufeff, had all the opportunity to win it."<\/p>\n

However, retiring Hawthorn and Geelong premiership champion\ufeff Isaac Smith believes the Demons have nothing to worry about going into 2024, despite the prospect of being haunted by their finals failures.<\/p>\n

"Melbourne shouldn't overreact, they've got\ufeff an unbelievable midfield, their defence is solid, they copped a couple of injuries in the forward line," Smith said on Nine's AFL Sunday Footy Show.<\/em><\/p>\n

"If they can get that right next year, they're going to be challenging again."<\/p>\n

Smith, who was part of Geelong's 2022 premiership side that turned around from an 83-point 2021 preliminary final loss to win the flag the following year\ufeff, urged Melbourne to remain strategic going forward.<\/p>\n

"The worst thing they can do is go and throw all the toys out and start making emotional decisions, because they do have the basis of a really good football side there. It wasn't their year this year," Smith said.<\/p>\n
