Mark Taylor<\/a> has questioned whether Australia's 50-over World Cup<\/a> squad is too all-rounder heavy after a fracture put Travis Head's participation in doubt.<\/p>\n

Head fractured his left hand earlier this week<\/a> after copping a ball to the glove while batting against South Africa, and he now faces a race against time to be fit for Australia's World Cup opener against India on October 8.<\/p>\n

Australia's World Cup squad has five recognised all-rounders in Sean Abbott, Cameron Green, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, and Taylor questioned whether another specialist batter needed to be included.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Marnus Labuschagne appears the obvious choice to replace Head, should his hand not recover in time, and Taylor believes the Test No.3 should replace one of the all-rounders to offer more balance given his rich vein of white-ball form of late.<\/p>\n

"I will be surprised if it's a batter that falls out of the squad to get Labuschagne in," he said on Nine's Sports Sunday<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"We've got a lot of all-rounders in our squad and not a lot of out-and-out batters, and I think we've seen in this series in South Africa which is now two-all, you still need batters.<\/p>\n

"You still need someone to make a 100, 50 off 30 balls, yes, is a nice addition, but you still need someone who makes big scores in any form of the game to win games.<\/p>\n

"Obviously Labuschagne and Travis Head can both bowl a little bit, but apart from \ufeffthat there's Stoinis, Marsh, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell … Australia have got a lot of all-rounders in their 15.<\/p>\n

"It's probably indicative of where cricket is at the moment, there's so much influence from T20 cricket that those players who can bat, bowl and field well are getting preference over those who have only got two skills.<\/p>\n

"There's not room for all four all-rounders in our one-day squad, but it's going to be hard to work out who misses out."<\/p>\n
