In his 115th cap, Ireland<\/a> captain Johnny Sexton eclipsed Ronan O'Gara as the nation's all-time top scorer.<\/p>\n

Sexton wound up on 1095 points to move ahead of O'Gara's tally of 1083 after his side demolished Tonga at Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes.<\/p>\n

Ireland ran in eight tries, triumphing 59-16.<\/p>\n

Tonga crossed the try line just once in the 44th minute courtesy of Vaea Fifita, long after the hooter had sounded to signal half-time.<\/p>\n

Sexton was quick to downplay the milestone, noting the team's toughest challenge to come in South Africa in a weeks' time.<\/p>\n

"It's not about personal achievements for us, it's about winning the next game and we're delighted to get the result tonight against a very good Tongan team," said Sexton.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's on to the next week now, it's a massive game for us against the reigning world champions. It's all geared towards that now."<\/p>\n

While Sexton was gracious, Ireland head coach Andy Farrell offered plenty of praise.<\/p>\n

"Well, he deserves all the plaudits that he gets, doesn't he," said Farrell.<\/p>\n

"For all the points that he's scored for Ireland, that wouldn't be the main thing for me \u2013 how he makes people feel and how he leads the team is his main job and he's one of the best in the world at that."<\/p>\n

With his effort against Tonga, Sexton moved to fourth on the all-time top scorers for all countries, edging ahead of Welsh legend Neil Jenkins (1090).<\/p>\n

New Zealand legend Dan Carter remains the all-time top scorer for all countries on 1598 points ahead of England's Jonny Wilkinson.<\/p>\n

Owen Farrell is the highest ranked active player in third with 1196 points ahead of Sexton and Jenkins.<\/p>\n
