Needing to beat Switzerland 3-0 to progress, Australia has done just that to book their ticket to the Davis Cup<\/a> finals.<\/p>\n

Australia will return to Malaga in November after victories to Thanasi Kokkinakis<\/a>, Alex de Minaur<\/a> and then the doubles pairing of Matt Ebden and Max Purcell.<\/p>\n

Australia hasn't won the Davis Cup in 20 years, and lost to Canada in the final last year.<\/p>\n

Team captain Lleyton Hewitt<\/a> \u2013 who was on that successful 2003 team \u2013 said the players all got a taste of the Davis Cup final in the Canada defeat, which has hardened them against the pressure of the unique format.<\/p>\n

"We gave ourselves a great opportunity last year and the boys got a taste for it," Hewitt said.<\/p>\n

"We want to try and push a little bit harder and see if we can climb that mountain and I feel like I've got the boys that are able to do that."<\/p>\n

Kokkinakis defeated Dominic Stricker 6-3, 7-5 to win the first singles rubber, before Alex de Minaur cruised past Marc-Andrea Huesler 6-4, 6-3.<\/p>\n

Kokkinakis sent down 16 aces in his win, but still faced six break points. He fought off five of them, and converted three of the five chances he created.<\/p>\n

De Minaur limited Huesler to just five winners and created 11 break point opportunities of his own.<\/p>\n

Needing to win their game to secure the win, Ebden and Purcell beat Stricket and Husler 6-2, 6-4.<\/p>\n

"The first two boys did so good to put us up 2-0 and made us feel extra confident by taking the pressure off," Ebden said after the win.<\/p>\n

"We knew that we still had to win this match \u2026 Huge team effort all week from everyone."<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Finland shocked the USA to book their spot in the Final 8 for the first time, defeating the 32-time champions\u00a0<\/p>\n

Great Britain will meet France on Sunday night (AEST), with the winner to also move through to the Final 8.\u00a0<\/p>\n
