Bulldogs\ufeff great and former Knight Willie Mason<\/a> has reignited his verbal stoush<\/a> with Newcastle<\/a> playmaker Tyson Gamble after the club crashed out of the NRL<\/a> finals on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Knights took a 10-game winning streak into the semi-final against the Warriors in Auckland, but \ufeffthe New Zealand club carved out a 40-10 win<\/a> to end Newcastle's season and advance to the preliminary finals.<\/p>\n

Mason, who put on big hits in his playing days and has continued to do so as a podcaster, took to X, formerly Twitter, to spray Gamble in the dying stages of Newcastle's defeat.<\/p>\n

"There could not be a bigger hole that Tyson Gamble wants to crawl into right now," Mason wrote.<\/p>\n

"Pick ya battles, boy.<\/p>\n

"You are below average."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Mason first discredited Gamble when he hit out at the Knights last week, saying they had the "worst f—ing spine in the league" without representative fullback Kalyn Ponga.<\/p>\n

Mason, who played 60 NRL games for the Knights late in his career, also said teams wouldn't bother doing video analysis on the playmaking trio of Gamble, Jackson Hastings and Phoenix Crossland, suggesting a lack of star power.<\/p>\n

Gamble, who's spent time with the Tigers, Broncos and Knights, plays with a lot of heart and is a fiery customer.<\/p>\n

He fired back at Mason in an interview with AAP.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Me, Jacko and Phoenix all saw it," Gamble said of Mason's podcast comments.<\/p>\n

"Everybody's got an opinion.<\/p>\n

"He should probably worry about his own backyard before he starts worrying about other people," he added, refereeing to Mason's assistant coaching job with the Bulldogs.<\/p>\n

"He was a middle, not a half, so tell him to get f—ed.<\/p>\n

"We're not a team of superstars, we've got Kalyn who is the biggest star in the game, we're a team of blokes who do their job and that's why we're in the position we're in."<\/p>\n

Gamble's comments followed \ufeffthe Knights' elimination final win against the Raiders in Newcastle<\/a>.<\/p>\n
