Players were left visibly distraught after Namibian rugby player Le Roux Malan appeared to suffer a broken ankle in the first half of his team's contest against New Zealand<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Malan was chasing a ball when he slid into a tackle on Beuaden Barrett in the 19th minute of the Pool A Rugby World Cup<\/a> match.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old immediately clutched at his leg and began frantically waving at sideline officials to stop the contest.<\/p>\n

"One of the Namibian players has stayed down, in really bad shape," said Stan Sport commentator Rikki Swannell.<\/p>\n

"I think his opponents and the crowd have seen it as well."<\/p>\n

Ardie Savea was among those to pull away as did referee Luke Pearce who had to stop himself from swearing.<\/p>\n

A lengthy stoppage followed as Malan was attended to.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was Malan's first start for Namibia at this year's Rugby World Cup.<\/p>\n

He was taken from the field at which point the crowd erupted in support, clapping off the centre.<\/p>\n

The All Blacks led 39-3 at the half-time break after scoring six tries and went on to take a convincing 71-3 victory.<\/p>\n

Speaking post-match, Namibia head coach Allister Coetzee said the team were waiting to understand the full extent of the injury.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"We are still waiting for an accurate assessment but according to our doctor, it looked like an ankle fracture – we will just wait and see," he explained.<\/p>\n

"Of course, injuries are something you can't prevent. We feel more disappointed for Le Roux because he left the field so early. It is a game that every boy dreams of playing in.<\/p>\n

"But I don't think it has been a big disruption. I'm pretty sure Le Roux won't be playing any further part in this World Cup so we will need to make a decision tonight and call up a replacement. <\/p>\n
