\ufeffA furious Frances Tiafoe<\/a> was left dumbfounded by a hugely controversial call, that led to the American losing his Davis Cup<\/a> tie via code violation on match point.<\/p>\n

Tiafoe was beaten for the second straight time during the US team's campaign this week, with his 6-3, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (2) loss to Tallon Griekspoor handing the Netherlands a 2-1 victory over the United States in Group D.<\/p>\n

Serving at 5-2 in the third set tiebreaker, Griekspoor slammed a slice serve down the T but it was called out by the linesperson as Tiafoe's return hit the net.<\/p>\n

The Netherlands challenged the call and the replay showed the serve glanced the line. Rather than replaying the point, the chair umpire ruled the serve a winner and the point to the Netherlands, giving the Dutchman match point at 6-2.<\/p>\n

An incensed Tiafoe approached the chair umpire and referee and referenced a similar situation that arose in a match on Thursday where the chair umpire ruled a replay of the point.<\/p>\n

Tiafoe urged the point should be replayed as it had been the previous day but the chair umpire disagreed.<\/p>\n

Griekspoor stood at the line ready to serve it out as Tiafoe walked back to the court, and hammered his racquet against the hard court repeatedly.<\/p>\n

"Code violation, racquet abuse, point penalty USA," the chair umpire announced as Tiafoe was grabbing a new racquet from his bag.<\/p>\n

"Game, set, match Netherlands."<\/p>\n

Tiafoe shook hands with Griekspoor and the Dutch captain then continued to argue his case to the chair to no avail.<\/p>\n

"The end of the match is super unfortunate. A lot transpired there at the end with the call there at 5-2," Tiafoe said post-match.<\/p>\n

"Obviously I could have responded in a better way but emotions are flying, I'm competing for my country, I really want to win.<\/p>\n

"Broke a racquet there and I forgot I had a code violation earlier in the match, match is over. I gave it my all. It's been a tough stretch for me over here in Croatia."<\/p>\n

The Netherlands secured the tie and moved to the top of the Group D with the 2-0 victory.<\/p>\n
