D\ufeffaniel Ricciardo<\/a> suffered seven fractures to his left hand in his Dutch Grand Prix crash<\/a> and the Australian fan favourite's recovery is "complicated", says Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko.<\/p>\n

\ufeffRicciardo, who's signed to Red Bull but is on loan with AlphaTauri after the mid-season axing of Nyck De Vries<\/a>, will return to the paddock at the Singapore Grand Prix on the weekend, but only for engineering purposes.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe 34-year-old will again be replaced by Liam Lawson, who took his seat for the Italian Grand Prix on the first weekend of this month.<\/p>\n

When Ricciardo will return to the cockpit is a murky prospect.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's complicated. There are seven fractures. The same doctor who operated on [MotoGP rider] Marc Marquez is taking care of him," Marko told Servus TV.<\/p>\n

"We are expecting a six-week break and have brought in a top replacement in Liam Lawson.<\/p>\n

"We don't want to take any risks."<\/p>\n

After Ricciardo had surgery on his hand, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner predicted the eight-time grand prix winner\ufeff would make his racing return at the Singapore Grand Prix.<\/p>\n

"Any normal human being would probably be about 10-12 weeks, but we know that these guys aren't normal," Horner said.<\/p>\n

If Ricciardo is sidelined for six weeks, as forecast by Marko, he will return to racing at the Qatar Grand Prix at the earliest.<\/p>\n

He suffered his hand injury when he collided into the wall at the fourth corner of the Zandvoort circuit<\/a> during a practice session.<\/p>\n

Australian young gun Oscar Piastr\ufeffi made an error and crashed at the same corner, leaving Ricciardo with a split-second decision to make: either crash into Piastri or the wall.<\/p>\n

Ricciardo did not take his hands off the steering wheel when he hit the wall and the forces were enough to cause seven fractures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
