Just hours after Jeremy Finlayson admitted his wife's terminal cancer battle was "taking its toll" on him, the Port Adelaide<\/a> key forward was axed for his side's semi-final against Greater Western Sydney<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Finlayson will not face his former club in the Power's knockout clash at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night, having been\ufeff dropped to make way for spearhead Charlie Dixon.<\/p>\n

Although his wife Kellie is fighting stage-four bowel and lung cancer\ufeff, Finlayson has booted 38 goals this season, his highest return since tallying 44 majors for GWS in 2019.<\/p>\n

But he's only managed six goals from his last seven matches, and went goalless from six touches in Port Adelaide's qualifying final defeat to Brisbane<\/a>.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Hours before being cut from Port Adelaide's side, Finlayson, his wife and their two-year-old daughter were on Seven's The Morning Show<\/em> on Wednesday.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's been a rocky road, it's been a long 18 months," Finlayson said.<\/p>\n

"It's kind of taken its toll, I won't lie about that. Lately, the past three or four weeks, it's taken its toll and it shows in footy.<\/p>\n

"I've tried to put a brave face on through everything, just looking at how strong Kellie is and just trying to be her rock and just trying to put a smile on her face out on the football ground for her and Soph and trying to provide for them while she's going through such a difficult battle. It's all that I can do."<\/p>\n

Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes made a point of Finlayson's form and body language on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> on Monday night, scrutinising his performance against Brisbane.<\/p>\n

"The one I'm really disappointed in is Jeremy Finlayson and I have been for a number of weeks now," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

"They need their big players because there's not much behind them, there's not much depth.<\/p>\n

"Body language like this, as we've spoken about on this program before, isn't good enough. Todd Marshall is under pressure, he's missed an easy shot and he's got Jeremy Finlayson hanging around the back for a cheap shot at goal\ufeff.<\/p>\n

"He's got to be better and he'll be lucky if he's in the side this week."<\/p>\n

Dixon will play his first match since round 20 as he returns from a foot injury.\ufeff<\/p>\n
