M\ufeffelbourne<\/a> star Christian Petracca<\/a> has offered an insight into why Angus Brayshaw's family has been distressed by his latest concussion, revealing his teammate has been given the "all clear" by a neurologist.<\/p>\n

Brayshaw suffered his latest concussion after an inadvertent collision between he and Collingwood defender Brayden Maynard<\/a> in last Friday's qualifying final.<\/p>\n

Maynard was sent directly to the tribunal but was subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing<\/a>, a decision which has left Brayshaw and his family distressed.<\/p>\n

Brayshaw is engaged to Danielle Frawley, the daughter of late St Kilda legend Danny Frawley, who died in 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"Angus<\/p>\n

Scans on Frawley's brain after his death revealed that he had suffered from CTE after dozens of concussions during his 240-game career between 1984 and 1995.<\/p>\n

Petracca explained the impact of the concussion on both the Brayshaw and Frawley families, as well as the wider Melbourne family.<\/p>\n

"I think that's what has been tough for myself and the team to try rally around him and his family. It's life," he told KIIS 101.1.<\/p>\n

"As I've said in the media before, you've got your brain for the rest of your life. Footy is a byproduct of who we are. We are human beings at the end of the day.<\/p>\n

"Footy yes is our job, but you've got your brain for the rest of your life. That's probably been the difficult point of view, seeing what he's gone through, and the family and we are really close to them.<\/p>\n

\"Danny<\/p>\n

"It's tough because the AFL has to report on the incident and report on what is the news at the time, and that is the incident with Maynard and Brayshaw.<\/p>\n

"I think from a personal point of view, I guess I've been up close with Angus and seen what he is like, so I don't think anyone externally has seen what he has gone through, so it's been quite tough.<\/p>\n

"I don't think people understand the layers to the concussion. It's not just affecting Angus, it's the broader perspective of the family. It's the Frawley family, it's the Brayshaw family, it's the parents. It's an emotional time for everyone.<\/p>\n

"When you've got all your group chats messaging you non-stop about it, 'Is he (Maynard) off? Is he not off? What do you think?', and it's kind of the last five days, it's really dragged on."<\/p>\n

Frawley's wife Anita has also called on the AFL to do more to protect players from brain injuries in the wake of Brayshaw's concussion, which comes on the eve of the four-year anniversary of her husband's death.<\/p>\n

"The events of the past few days have been extremely traumatising for my family," she told The Australian.<\/p>\n

"We request that we be given privacy to deal with our ongoing trauma, especially during the week of the anniversary of Danny's death.<\/p>\n

"Discussions about CTE and concussion need to be ongoing and the protection of athletes' brains has to be sacrosanct.<\/p>\n

"There can be no diversion from this as we, as a family, do not want to see anyone else go through the trauma and pain that has and continues to effect us."<\/p>\n
