One-time million-dollar superstar Anthony Milford<\/a>'s career in the NRL<\/a> could be over.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old is considering a move to the Super League<\/a> following his end-of-season review at the Dolphins<\/a>, according to 9News reporter Ben Dobbin.<\/p>\n

\ufeffDobbin claims Milford was essentially told by head coach Wayne Bennett<\/a> that his time playing first-grade in Australia was over, despite being contracted to the southern Queensland club for 2024.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffYou always wonder what goes on at end-of-season reviews, and you never really hear it, but if you join the dots you work it out," Dobbin told Triple M radio.<\/p>\n

"Before the season was finished Anthony Milford was offered a three-year deal to go to the Super League\ufeff as a marquee player.<\/p>\n

"That would make sense\ufeff, at the back end of his career, would he go overseas? He said no, he didn't want to leave his family.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThe end-of-season review (at the Dolphins) happened and surprise surprise, Anthony Milford is now looking overseas.<\/p>\n

"Which says to me Wayne Bennett \ufeffsaid to him, 'hey mate, you're not playing first grade here next year'.<\/p>\n

"The Dolph\ufeffins are saying he's still contracted for 2024 – when they start saying that you know they've given him the green light (to leave)."<\/p>\n

Milford was once one of the highest paid players in the competition, and became Brisbane's first million-dollar star when he inked a contract extension in 2017.<\/p>\n

He had led the Broncos to the 2015 grand final – alongside long-time halves partner Ben Hunt – after starting his career as a talented fullback at the Raiders.<\/p>\n

But the Broncos went south quickly after Bennett was ousted as coach in 2018, and Milford's form deteriorated \ufeffto the point he wasn't being picked in the NRL team, before leaving Red Hill in 2021.<\/p>\n

The maligned playmaker staged a comeback of sorts with the Knights last year, then was signed by Bennett to the inaugural Dolphins roster, but that relationship seems to be ending after one season.\ufeff<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
