Australia<\/a> was left searching for answers as Alex de Minaur<\/a> and Thanasi Kokkinakis<\/a> were both defeated by British players in their Davis Cup<\/a> finals group stage clash in Manchester.<\/p>\n

The loss \ufeffputs huge pressure on Australia's chances of qualifying for the tournament's final eight stage, with Lleyton Hewitt's team needing a top-two finish in this week's group stage.<\/p>\n

First up, Kokkinakis was outplayed\ufeff 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 by Jack Draper, before Dan Evans halted a comeback from Alex de Minaur to win 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.<\/p>\n

Matt Ebden and Max Purcell pulled one back in the doubles rubber but all the focus turns to the clash against France in their next tie on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The French won their opening tie against Switzerland 3-0.<\/p>\n

The British team's decision to drop Cameron Norrie and Andy Murray was validated when\ufeff 21-year-old Draper came back in the first set, which went for over an hour, to down Kokkinakis in two hours and 50 minutes.<\/p>\n

De Minaur, who'd won seven of his last eight Davis Cup singles and was playing his first match as a world top-12 player, started slowly.<\/p>\n

He put things together to win the second set before Evans powered away to a 4-0 lead in the decider.<\/p>\n
