Former Collingwood president Eddie McGuire<\/a>\ufeff has defended his actions after he was filmed celebrating news that Magpie Brayden Maynard's rough conduct charge against Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw was absolved<\/a> on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

It comes after the AFL<\/a> confirmed that the end of the season it will investigate Maynard's contact on Brayshaw<\/a>, despite opting not to appeal the tribunal's decision to exonerate the rough conduct charge.\ufeff<\/p>\n

McGuire was\ufeff filmed in a Hawthorn restaurant by 2010 Collingwood premiership player Dale Thomas, celebrating Maynard being free to play in the Magpies' preliminary final against either Port Adelaide or the GWS Giants.<\/p>\n

"Ladies and gentleman, justice has been done. Maynard is free to play for the Pies\ufeff!" McGuire is heard exclaiming in the video posted on Thomas' Instagram story.<\/p>\n

But the antics weren't appreciated by all parties, with McGuire quick to recognise how the video may have been perceived.<\/p>\n

"Everyone was mucking around I walked in about five minutes before that (video) happens. Everyone as I walked past \ufeffwere asking 'what's going on with the Maynard situation?'," McGuire said on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

McGuire was quick to defend the actions which have gone viral on social media, saying it was not a shot at Brayshaw or his distraught family and teammates\ufeff, rather "unbridled joy" at Maynard's fate.<\/p>\n

"That was not any thought about that (Brayshaw) and I apologise if anyone actually takes it that way," McGuire said.<\/p>\n

"It was all about\ufeff that Brayden Maynard had got through, a key player for Collingwood going into a preliminary final amongst a lot of Collingwood people who had come up and asked for photos at that stage.<\/p>\n

"It was pure fun in what has been a very very raw situation\ufeff.<\/p>\n

"You're still allowed to have some fun in the game and there was no slight or malice towards anyone and unbridled joy that a champion of the Collingwood football club will be right to play in the final."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
