Just like he'd done thousands of times at Redfern Oval\ufeff as a kid, Adam Reynolds<\/a> struck an audacious goal-line drop-out last Friday night and executed it perfectly.<\/p>\n

As a football-mad young tacker from Sydney's inner south, he never pictured himself doing so in a Broncos<\/a> jumper \u2014 and perhaps never at Suncorp Stadium, either \u2014 but \ufeffthe outcome was the same, the footy finding an unmanned patch of grass and trickling into touch to ensure his team retained possession.<\/p>\n

Wally Lewis<\/a> said on this week's edition of Wide World of Sports' QLDER<\/em><\/a> that Reynolds would go down as a "legend" \u2014 and the rugby league Immortal explained that the diminutive halfback's beautiful skill off the boot was central to his rise to greatness.<\/p>\n

"I still see things like we were talking about before from Reynolds where he comes up with a play. Only blokes like Locky [Darren Lockyer] or Alf [Allan Langer] at his absolute best would have come up with something where you get players of their experience\ufeff able to assess the situation at hand," said Lewis, marvelling at the Reynolds drop-out that stunned Melbourne during last Friday's qualifying final<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"He's on ground level, he's looking back and he's able to pick where there's players out and he made a very brave play. It only landed a few metres in from the touchline."<\/p>\n

The ball soared over Cameron Munster's head, travelled 47 metres on the full, hit the turf and bobbled into touch on the halfway line.<\/p>\n

As cool as you like, the crafty No.7 lapped up some high-fives from his teammates, before feeding a scrum and continuing to steer the premiership fancies around their home paddock.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"That basically further turned the match in the Broncos' favour," Lewis added.<\/p>\n

"That's the difference between a very good and a wonderful player that will be a legend."<\/p>\n

Reynolds hadn't played a game since round 24 because of a calf issue, but he showed no sign of being underdone in last Friday's qualifying final.<\/p>\n

As he's done on hundreds of occasions in South Sydney colours and a smattering of times in the Brisbane strip, \ufeffhe barked orders, fired off passes long and short, made darting runs and kicked superbly, steering the Broncos to a 26-0 win and a preliminary final berth.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffWithout peeing in your pocket, you had the best kicking game, and Reynolds' control currently is the best I've seen since Locky. It's been way in front [of the rest]," Lewis said to Lockyer on the QLDER<\/em> panel.<\/p>\n

"You could just see what it [the drop-out] did to the team; it inspired them, they were celebrating, they knew they were pretty much in control of their destiny at that stage. That was quite remarkable. We were talking about it for ages after the game, just how it inspired his teammates."<\/p>\n

With three minutes left on the clock in the Broncos' qualifying final, Reynolds\ufeff plucked a Harry Grant pass and tested out a facet of his game he's not renowned for, running as quickly as he could down the right touchline in pursuit of a try.<\/p>\n

\ufeffHe got over the try line but lost the ball as his opposite number, Jahrome Hughes, pulled off a tremendous chase-down tackle.<\/p>\n

"He's on one side of the field doing those ones and Allan Langer was running onto the field," Lockyer said with a laugh on QLDER<\/em>.<\/p>\n
