The developing feud between the Tigers<\/a> and Manly<\/a> just went up a level.<\/p>\n

The Sea Eagles have signed Aitasi James, a boom young lock who played five NRL<\/a> games for the Tigers last season.<\/p>\n

A tough 22-year-old, James handled the elevation well in a team that struggled to win games and should appreciate playing in the strong Manly pack in 2024.<\/p>\n

There has been little love lost between the clubs since recruitment guru Scott Fulton switched camps earlier this year and then the Tigers pinched Manly's promising Fainu brothers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This latest incident will only add fuel to the fire.<\/p>\n

Haas \ufeffto bring Payne in the ring<\/h2>\n

Australia's newest boxing champion has revealed Broncos<\/a> superstar Payne Haas<\/a> could begin his career in the square ring within months.<\/p>\n

Former Wynnum Manly player Luke Modini \u2014 who last weekend won the Australian Cruiserweight title with a stunning KO upset of Ben Kelleher \u2014 played alongside Haas in the Broncos' junior ranks four years ago and .<\/p>\n

Modini told Wide World of Sports the pair work out regularly in the ring, with Haas apparently keen to kick-start his boxing career in the summer.<\/p>\n

\"Payne<\/p>\n

"We have stayed close mates even though I gave up league four or five years ago," Modini said.<\/p>\n

"Payne comes to the gym and you should see him go – he can really throw them.<\/p>\n

"He is big and good on his feet and has such a good motor from footy.<\/p>\n

"He would make a sensational boxer and we've been talking about getting him a fight in the off season and seeing how he does."<\/p>\n

Haas has expressed a desire to follow one of his mentors, Sonny Bill Williams, from footy to boxing, but it was expected to be much later in his career.<\/p>\n

Modini made the tough call to give up boxing for football at the age of 21.<\/p>\n

"I was doing shift work and just had a son – it was hard to fit in football training as well," the 25-year-old said..<\/p>\n

"With boxing I could train when I wanted and that was a major factor in my decision but I still miss the footy a bit – I watch a game and I get itchy hands and feet.<\/p>\n

"I've stayed mates with him, Pat Carrigan, Tom Flegler, Jaydn Su'a\u2026 we had a pretty good team."<\/p>\n

Modini is now looking to become the next big name on the Aussie boxing scene.<\/p>\n

"I'm over the moon about the win the other day – now it's onward and upward hopefully," he said.<\/p>\n

Kyle Flanagan over Ben Hunt?\ufeff<\/h2>\n

So what will new Dragons<\/a> coach Shane Flanagan<\/a> do with his utility signing, son Kyle Flanagan?<\/p>\n

The youngster's preferred position is at halfback but he can also play five-eighth and hooker.<\/p>\n

The problem is Shane already has one of the best halves in the game in Ben Hunt<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His plan I'm hearing is to play Kyle at No.7 and Hunt at No.6 – and I'm not sure how that will go down with Hunt, who is already unhappy at the Dragons and wanting out.<\/p>\n

Kyle's signing hasn't gone down well with all Dragons fans – at least one has written to the club handing back his membership while fan sites have been scathing on the coach's decision to bring his boy onboard.<\/p>\n

With Kyle Flanagan signing up at the Dragons, the club is looking to move on promising playmaker Junior Amone.<\/p>\n

The Raiders<\/a> showed some interest in Amone – a guy with some smart tricks with the ball – as a replacement for the departing Jack Wighton<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But after doing their due diligence, the Raiders decided Amone wasn't a good fit and have dropped off the chase.<\/p>\n

Milford's on the move\ufeff<\/h2>\n

Veteran Dolphins utility Anthony Milford<\/a> is close to signing a deal to finish his career with Leigh Leopards in the Super League.<\/p>\n

A former Queensland State of Origin and Samoan Test representative, Milford is still only 29 years of age but had a disappointing season at the Dolphins.<\/p>\n

He was dropped in the pre-season due to an allegedly poor attitude and was only used by Bennett when the Dolphins got hit by injury.<\/p>\n

A tremendous talent on his day, Milford has been an enimga throughout his 11-year career with the Raiders, Broncos, Knights and Dolphins.<\/p>\n
