Latrell Mitchell<\/a> has rubbished claims he snubbed children at a junior rugby league carnival on the weekend.<\/p>\n

A man claiming to be a Souths supporter called 2GB's Ben Fordham Show on Tuesday and accused the Rabbitohs<\/a> star of telling his two grandchildren, aged four and eight, to "go away", when they asked Mitchell for a photograph while attending the Mark Geyer Trophy event in Penrith on Saturday.<\/p>\n

"To hear that on Saturday morning was so disappointing and I'm pretty sure I'm no longer a Rabbitohs supporter," the caller told Ben Fordham.<\/p>\n

Mitchell, a finalist for the prestigious Ken Stephen Medal, which recognises work players do in the community, denounced the claims on social media, insisting he never told any children he wouldn't take a photo with them.<\/p>\n

"I'm glad everyone can believe one idiot (who makes) a stupid complaint," Mitchell wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

"Never once said no (to a photo), I said 'wait til the games are over and I will happily' (take the photo).<\/p>\n

"I don't need to explain myself. My integrity with the youth should never be questioned.<\/p>\n

"When can we as NRL players have a day to sit watch a bit of junior footy and enjoy our kids?<\/p>\n

"Shame on you!"<\/p>\n

Latrell's brother Shaquai and teammate Cody Walker also hit out at the criticism on social media, while Mitchell's management released a statement.<\/p>\n

"Latrell drove out to Penrith to attend the gala day on Saturday and was there with his family for several hours," wrote Matt Rose.<\/p>\n

"Whilst at the gala day\u2026 Latrell signed autographs and shook hands with junior rugby league players.<\/p>\n

"But there were no photos taken on the day. It is not uncommon for him to say no to photos.<\/p>\n

"If this is raised in the media\u2026 it'll only push Latrell further away and may lead to him not attending these events in the future.<\/p>\n

"If you take on Latrell\u2026 you'll have a legal letter on your doorstep\u2026"<\/p>\n

Mitchell's nomination for the Ken Stephen Medal is a result of his focus on Indigenous communities, regional NSW, mental health and grass-roots Rugby League.<\/p>\n
