Fiery Newcastle<\/a> playmaker Tyson Gamble has delivered a foul-mouthed retort to an NRL<\/a> cult hero who criticised him and his teammates.<\/p>\n

\ufeffCanterbury<\/a> great Willie Mason<\/a> took aim at the Knights spine on a podcast last week, labelling it "the worst in the league" and claiming fullback Kalyn Ponga<\/a> was the only one holding them together.<\/p>\n

It was a brutal slight on Ponga's fellow spine members Gamble, Jackson Hastings<\/a>, and Phoenix Crossland.<\/p>\n

While Ponga and Hastings have plenty of first-grade experience between them, Crossland and Gamble had struggled to play regular NRL games prior to this season.<\/p>\n

\ufeffBut the pair have found a home at hooker and five-eighth respectively, and have helped steer the Knights to a semi-final against the Warriors this week.<\/p>\n

After beating the Raiders on Sunday, Gamble took the chance to fire back at Mason's criticism.<\/p>\n

"Me, Jacko and Phoenix all saw (the comments)," Gamble told AAP.<\/p>\n

"Everybody's got an opinion. It's all right, he should probably worry about his own backyard before he starts worrying about other people.<\/p>\n

"He was a middle (forward) not a half, so tell him to get f—ed.<\/p>\n

\"Knights<\/p>\n

"We're not a team of superstars, we've got Kalyn who is the biggest star in the game.<\/p>\n

"We're a team of blokes who do their job and that's why we're in the position we're in."<\/p>\n
