Two AFL<\/a> icons are on the chopping block as Alastair Clarkson<\/a> makes sweeping changes to North Melbourne<\/a>'s football department in an effort to drag the Kangaroos off the bottom of the ladder.<\/p>\n

The club on Monday announced assistant coach John Blakey and senior development coach Gavin Brown\ufeff had left after the team won just three games in 2023.<\/p>\n

Their departures follow that of experienced coach Brett Ratten from the staff<\/a>, who took the reins for 10 games this year while Clarkson took an indefinite mental health break.<\/p>\n

\ufeffNow leading journalist Caroline Wilson has revealed the wholesale changes won't stop there, with legendary Brisbane goalkicker Jonathan Brown and North Melbourne games record holder Brent Harvey in danger of losing their roles.<\/p>\n

"I think they've gone off the part-timers as well," Wilson said on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"I don't think we'll be seeing Josh Gibson, who has been doing some part-time defence work, Johnathan Brown was doing some part-time forwards work.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffBoomer (Brent) Harvey will be moving out of the football department as well, they'll give him some player-led ambassador role, but he won't be there either.<\/p>\n

"Alastair Clarkson has just gone, 'enough of the part-timers'.<\/p>\n

"I think (Clarkson\ufeff) did take a pay cut before he took on the job to allow some more room in the soft cap, but obviously they couldn't afford to keep Brett Ratten. I'll be interested to see who he brings in.<\/p>\n

Clarkson arrived at Arden Street with much fanfare given North Melbourne's dire on-field results in recent years.<\/p>\n

But the three-time premiership Hawthorn legend could not improve the fortunes of the team in his first year in charge, although he was absent for almost half the season.<\/p>\n

\ufeffPort Adelaide great Kane Cornes criticised the Kangaroos for axing the majority of their coaching department after only one season under Clarkson.<\/p>\n

"It's amazing how it changes in the off-season," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffEveryone was talking about what a dream team Alastair Clarkson had created in that coaching department, one season on and it's dissipated."<\/p>\n
