J\ufeffack Wighton<\/a> was stung by a stunning allegation in his final game in a Raiders<\/a> jumper, being accused by Tyson Gamble of biting the Knights<\/a> five-eighth.<\/p>\n

Early in the second half of the elimination final in Newcastle on Sunday, won by the Knights 30-28<\/a>, Gamble tackled Wighton and sprung back to his feet exasperated, pointing to his left arm and alleging to referee Ashley Klein that the Canberra superstar had bitten him.<\/p>\n

Klein did not award a penalty, instead opting to only report Wighton, and the former NSW Blues representative now faces the prospect of missing the opening games of his stint with the Rabbitohs<\/a>, beginning next season.\ufeff<\/p>\n

In 2020, former Titans\ufeff skipper Kevin Proctor was banned for four games after being found guilty of biting Shaun Johnson.<\/p>\n

"There's a mark!" Gamble shouted at Klein in Newcastle on Sunday.<\/p>\n

"That's slobber, that's not sweat."<\/p>\n

Wighton interjected.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Sir, he leans on the back of my head. What else am I suppose to do?" said the Rabbitohs-bound playmaker.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"You can see the indentation on the wrist," Andrew Johns said on Nine's coverage.<\/p>\n

"Old-school players \ufeffwould say don't have your hand around his head.<\/p>\n

"This is a big moment."<\/p>\n

Wighton again defended himself when Klein reported him.<\/p>\n

"Sir, I can't move my mouth. He's got to move his arm," Wighton pleaded.<\/p>\n

Billy Slater applauded Klein's decision to not penalise Wighton, opting against siding with either party in the heat of the moment.<\/p>\n

"How do you differ? Jack Wighton\ufeff biting down, or is that just the force of Gamble pushing into Jack Wighton's teeth? You can't make that decision right now," Slater said on the Nine broadcast.<\/p>\n

"I think they've handled this well. I think that's OK. Let someone else deal with it later on. They're going to let the match review committee [rule on it]."<\/p>\n

Brad Fittler chimed in, saying the situation was "well handled" by the referee.<\/p>\n

"They are complicated matters, but in the first place, he [Gamble] shouldn't have his hand near his [Wighton's] face."\ufeff<\/p>\n

A Kalyn Ponga penalty goal late in extra time proved the difference<\/a> between the Knights and Raiders, Newcastle prevailing in a pulsating clash.<\/p>\n

While the Raiders are now out of the NRL<\/a> premiership race,\ufeff the Knights are set for a semi-final against the Warriors in Auckland next Saturday.<\/p>\n
