St Kilda<\/a> has been unable to withstand the late withdrawal of star forward Tim Membrey<\/a> after being bundled out of the finals by an impressive GWS Giants<\/a> side.<\/p>\n

The Saints missed Membrey's presence in the forward half, managing just 11 goals as the Giants ran out 15. 11. (101) to 11. 11. (77) winners<\/a> in front of over 68,000 fans at the MCG.<\/p>\n

St Kilda's loss came after coach Ross Lyon admitted his side had been shaken pre-match after hearing Membrey would be unable to take the field.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It sort of just rocks you a bit," Lyon told 3AW prior to the elimination final.<\/p>\n

Lyon's comments came after St Kilda confirmed Membrey was "receiving appropriate care" for a "personal health matter" on early Saturday morning, meaning Anthony Caminiti received a late call-up.\ufeff<\/p>\n

St Kilda assistant coach Lenny Hayes \ufeffsent support to Membrey in the challenging time.<\/p>\n

"He's got a mental health challenge at the moment that's sort of reared, and that's all I can really say out of respect to him," Hayes told AFL Nation prior to the elimination final loss.<\/p>\n

St Kilda started the game well, kicking two of the first three goals of the match, before the Giants stamped their authority and took a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest.<\/p>\n

\ufeffGWS outnumbered the Saints all afternoon, despite a late surge from St Kilda that saw them boot four of the last five goals of the second quarter to reduce the margin to 23 points at the main break.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Young Giants midfielder Tom Green collected a massive 36 touches in a commanding performance.<\/p>\n

Meantime, St Kilda's shining lights were captain Jack Steele (38 disposals) and Rowan Marshall (31 disposals).\ufeff<\/p>\n
