Collingwood<\/a>'s Brayden Maynard<\/a> will head straight to the tribunal\ufeff after his hit on Melbourne<\/a>'s Angus Brayshaw was deemed careless conduct, severe impact and high contact.<\/p>\n

The verdict comes \ufeffafter Maynard flattened Angus Brayshaw<\/a> after the Demons midfielder kicked the football in the first term of the qualifying final on Thursday night at the MCG.<\/p>\n

Maynard attempted to smother the ball, but collided with Brayshaw's head\ufeff, knocking the Demon out.<\/p>\n

It comes after Collingwood fans came under fire after an "utterly disrespectful" and "despicable" chant was heard echoing throughout the MCG after the controversial incident during the Magpies' seven-point win over Melbourne.<\/p>\n

In the midst of Brayshaw receiving medical attention\ufeff, Magpies fans could be heard chanting their famous "Collingwood" cry around the MCG.<\/p>\n

The chant caused uproar across social media, but Maynard defended the action after his side's win.<\/p>\n

"I don't want to say too much, but it's a footy act," Maynard told Channel 7.<\/p>\n

"I came forward, I jumped to smother the ball and unfortunately I just got him on the way down."<\/p>\n

Despite Maynard's\ufeff defence, fans and media were critical of the act.<\/p>\n

Diversity in sport advocate Rana Hussain expressed her anger.<\/p>\n

"What was mind-blowing was the 'Collingwood' chant that erupted from the crowd as Brayshaw laid out flat and motionless. Despicable. That felt utterly disrespectful and cruel actually," \ufeffHussain said on Twitter during the game.<\/p>\n

Melbourne fans also called out the behaviour during the game, with many underscoring Brayshaw's struggles with concussion, with the midfielder best known for wearing a protective helmet every game.<\/p>\n

"I just can't imagine EVER behaving this way about an unconscious opposition player, especially one with a history of concussion," one fan wrote.<\/p>\n

"Don't fans of both teams usually show basic concern for a seriously injured player? It was really sickening, to be honest. Angus deserves better.<\/p>\n

"It happened over the other side of the ground from me, and the Collingwood chanting was so loud that I initially assumed Maynard was the one who'd been hurt. I'd be so embarrassed if Dees fans did that!"<\/p>\n

Demon Jacob Van Rooyen was also sanctioned, handed a one-match suspension for his elbow to the face of Collingwood's Daniel McStay.<\/p>\n

Collingwood advanced to a home preliminary final in the seven-point victory, meaning it'll have a week off before facing its next opponent at the MCG.<\/p>\n
