Port Adelaide champion Kane Cornes<\/a> says the West Coast Eagles<\/a> "alarming" best and fairest results show the club's plight may be worse than first thought.<\/p>\n

Midfielder Tim Kelly<\/a> took out the John Worsfold Medal after a stellar season which included a selection in the 44-man All-Australian squad in what was a season to forget for the bottom-placed Eagles.<\/p>\n

But it's not his, or runner-up Oscar Allen's efforts that Cornes has sounded the alarm over, with the Port great instead pointing the finger at other players who finished in the top 10. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"It is alarming," Cornes said on SEN of the best and fairest results.<\/p>\n

\"PERTH,<\/p>\n

"Tim Kelly won it, and he was deserving to win, he had a terrific season. Oscar Allen was the other standout for what he did, he was in the All-Australian squad and kicked 53 goals in that side.<\/p>\n

"After that, it is about as ugly a best and fairest result as you're going to see."<\/p>\n

Behind Kelly and Allen came Shannon Hurn in fifth, a worry for the Eagles, says Cornes, as the defender has now announced his retirement.<\/p>\n

"I'll give you an example of that. Shannon Hurn finished fifth \u2013 he's now retired, he played 13 games. That must be the softest top-five finish to a best and fairest ever," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

In addition to Hurn's finish in fifth, \ufeffCornes called out Andrew Gaff and Alex Witherden's top 10 finishes. <\/p>\n

"Andrew Gaff – who probably shouldn't be playing AFL football at all with all due respect, despite the fact he's been an excellent player – but the time is up for Andrew, he finished seventh in their best and fairest," he said.<\/p>\n

"Alex Witherden probably wouldn't be on a list of most clubs, once again with all due respect, he finished eighth in their best and fairest."<\/p>\n

The Eagles confirmed they "unanimously agreed" to stick with embattled coach Adam Simpson<\/a> despite recording one of their worst seasons in history, which included a dismal 171-point loss to Sydney.<\/p>\n

"Look, they've gone with their coach again and rightly or wrongly, you can have your debate on that," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

"But the alarming trend is their playing list and what they don't have because the young ones coming in aren't going to help.<\/p>\n

"It's the senior players in this top 10 of the best and fairest. It's going to drive the improvement for this group.<\/p>\n
