R\ufeffugby league Immortal Andrew Johns<\/a> has called on Jarome Luai<\/a> to consider the situation Reed Mahoney<\/a> is enduring as he weighs up his next contract.<\/p>\n

Mahoney signed for a bigger offer after leaving the Eels for Canterbury this season but has been part of a disappointing campaign. <\/p>\n

Luai's contract has been a point of discussion after he left his management<\/a>, while the Panthers have also signed five-eighth Daine Laurie along with re-signing fullback Dylan Edwards on a three-year deal worth $2.4 million. <\/p>\n

Johns believes Luai may only be looking at $600,000-a-season if he stays with Penrith. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"If you look at that signing, you've got Nathan (Cleary) and Dylan (in the spine), and you've got Mitch Kenny and Soni Luke who is there also as well," he said on Wide World of Sports' Immortal Behaviour<\/em><\/a>. <\/p>\n

"Th\ufeffe big one to talk about is Jarome Luai, is Jarome staying? Because that money they paid for Dylan, Jarome's probably looking at $600k maybe for Penrith."<\/p>\n

Johns was then asked if he thought Luai would stay for that offer, and considered the situation the Bulldogs hooker is currently going through. <\/p>\n

"\ufeffMaybe go and ask Reed Mahoney … it's going to be a big one for Jarome," he said. <\/p>\n

"Jarome's got a young family so you can totally understand it but if Jarome goes on the open market he's getting a million dollars.<\/p>\n

"Over five years you're talking near two million dollars (extra than the Panthers deal), you can't stay for that. <\/p>\n

"That's going to be the big story moving forward but for Dylan, congratulations to Dylan, congratulations to the Panthers, well done."<\/p>\n

Despite coach Ivan Cleary previously expressing his confidence that Luai would stay at the club, \ufeffone potential suitor could be the Bulldogs. <\/p>\n

Having only just signed Toby Sexton as halfback, the club will likely wait to see how he progresses \ufeffin the role, while question marks remain over Matt Burton's position at five-eighth, according to Johns. <\/p>\n

"I worry about \ufeffMatt Burton being a five-eighth, I think maybe he's a centre," he said.<\/p>\n

"I don't know if he's got that loud dominant voice."<\/p>\n

Johns also expressed his doubt on whether Luai could shift into a halfback role if the Bulldogs did partner him with Burton.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I don't know about Jarome being a halfback … he's a back up singer with Nathan as the lead singer," he said.<\/p>\n

"I don't know if he's got the tools and the organisation skills and the kicking game to be a halfback.<\/p>\n
