Peter Daicos, father of Collingwood<\/a> star Nick Daicos<\/a> \ufeffhas ruled out his son to face Melbourne<\/a> in the qualifying final<\/a>, but said that the midfielder would have got up for an elimination final.<\/p>\n

Daicos was sidelined by a hairline fracture in the lateral tibial plateau of his knee during Collingwood's match against Hawthorn in round 21<\/a>, ruling him out for six weeks.<\/p>\n

Despite the club confirming he is on track with his rehabilitation, father and Magpies legend Peter\ufeff is confident that he won't take part in the first week of finals, which begin with the Pies and Demons on Thursday September 7.<\/p>\n

"It's only a personal (view) but I don't think he will be playing," Peter said at the TAB finals launch on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

But Daicos didn't shy away from the idea that\ufeff if circumstances were different and Collingwood didn't have the second chance, his son would have played.<\/p>\n

"Had it have been an elimination final, then there's a lot more thinking going into rolling the dice with that," Daicos said.<\/p>\n

The senior Daicos was happy that an elimination final was not on the table \ufeffjust yet, with the Pies firmly set on progressing to the preliminary final and then a grand final.<\/p>\n

"There's a bigger scalp to be had here and we've got to have our players trying to get to the end of the season," Daicos said.<\/p>\n

"Maybe with 'Fly' (coach Craig McRae), it's about keeping his (Nick's) spirits up and keeping him going, but he's doing the work and he's keen to get back."<\/p>\n

It comes after Collingwood coach Craig McRae conceded that Daicos is unlikely to make selection against the Demons, but he wouldn't shut the door to the possibility of Nick proving his fitness ahead of selection.<\/p>\n

"Every day seems to be a positive in terms of his improvement and I won't see him until Thursday. We'll see how that's progressing then," McRae said on AFL360 on Monday night.<\/p>\n

"Nick's a remarkable kid in terms of the way he prepares himself and his professionalism."<\/p>\n

The comments prompted Peter Daicos to back his son's ability to slide right back into the Magpies' side despite his return coming after possibly seven weeks on the sidelines.<\/p>\n

"One of his good attributes is his hard running and if that came off a little bit he's still going to be up there," Daicos said.<\/p>\n

"You've got the interchange and how he's utilised \u2026 one of the things the coaches have shown is the management and positioning of their team.<\/p>\n

"I can't see that being a problem."<\/p>\n

Despite Daicos likely not being fit for selection\ufeff, the Pies will welcome back captain Darcy Moore from a hamstring injury<\/a>, alongside Beau McCreery (suspension) and Nathan Murphy (ankle) to face Melbourne at the MCG, with the winner advancing to a preliminary final at the same venue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
