Cameron Munster<\/a> has continued to play since the State of Origin<\/a> series despite carrying a knee infection, Storm<\/a> football boss Frank Ponissi has revealed.<\/p>\n

The superstar playmaker is one of 11 Melbourne players being rested for the Storm's final-round clash with the Broncos<\/a> in Brisbane on Friday night, after the club decided to name a second-string side having wrapped up a top-four spot.<\/p>\n

The resting of Munster a week out from the beginning of the finals is particularly important given the Queensland five-eighth's infected knee.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"They are athletes but also human beings so you have to match both those aspects," Ponissi told SEN radio on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

"We didn't bring Cameron Munster up (to Brisbane) because he has been carrying an infected knee since Origin.<\/p>\n

"We've given him the option to stay back, do his own training and not play this week.<\/p>\n

"He will be in a better state to play next week for the first week of the finals than if we had brought him up and played him."<\/p>\n

Munster was replaced in the \ufeffNo.6 jumper by former Rooster Jayden Nikorima, who's set for just his 10th NRL<\/a> appearance.<\/p>\n

Nikorima will partner\ufeff 28-game playmaker Tyran Wishart in the halves.<\/p>\n

The Storm are guaranteed to finish either third or fourth on the ladder\ufeff, depending on the result of their game against the Broncos and the outcome of the Warriors' match against the Dolphins in Brisbane on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

"This time last year, we were playing for the top four and we failed," Ponissi said.<\/p>\n

"We limped into the finals because of it and they were playing with niggling injuries and fatigue.<\/p>\n

\"Munster<\/p>\n

"We weren't at our best in that first final so this year we have earnt the right to decide whether or not to rest players.<\/p>\n

"We know that we can be at our absolute best at week one of the finals.<\/p>\n

"Quite a few players needed a rest."<\/p>\n

Among the 11 Melbourne players being rested for the Brisbane \ufeffclash are Munster, gun halfback Jahrome Hughes, brilliant hooker Harry Grant, giant prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona and captain Christian Welch.<\/p>\n
