B\ufeffilly Slater<\/a> has called on Latrell Mitchell<\/a> to rediscover the "want" in his game while former teammate Adam Reynolds<\/a> has also come out in support of the superstar.<\/p>\n

Mitchell has been maligned in recent weeks with the Rabbitohs' form dipping and their finals chances depending on this Friday's clash with the Roosters. <\/p>\n

Souths have also faced a number of internal issues, one being the reported preferential treatment of Mitchell. <\/p>\n

Slater believes the Origin star's "lack of want" is letting him down and hopes to see him reach finals, with the fullback missing this round due to suspension. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"Latrell at his best is a fantastic fullback, he is really dominant in the game and he can influence the outcome of a game, we've seen it this year … that's not the question," he said on Wide World of Sports' The Billy Slater podcast<\/em><\/a>. <\/p>\n

"It's about the consistency side of it and consistency comes with that want. There's been some vision floating around of Latrell over the last couple of weeks, there's just a lack of want in his game at the moment and that's just (down to) putting himself in a position to be part of the game.<\/p>\n

"When he's apart of the game, he is brilliant, that's not the issue with Latrell, the issue is him wanting to be a part of the game more often and that's been Latrell's challenge consistently for a while.<\/p>\n

"He's brilliant, he's a great player, I've never questioned whether Latrell can be a great fullback, he's shown that, it's just that consistency to be in the game all the time. <\/p>\n

"He's hoping his team (wins against the Roosters) then he gets the chance to showcase what he can do, he's got to sit on the couch and watch the team go around and hopefully the team can get it done for him."<\/p>\n

Ahead of the Broncos final round clash against the Storm on Thursday, Reynolds was also asked about the situation surrounding Mitchell and his former club. <\/p>\n

The South Sydney premiership winner couldn't put the targeting of Mitchell for criticism down to one issue and said it had been the same two years ago before he left.<\/p>\n

"I remember being at the club and when I was there it was still the same thing – I don't know if it's just because of how he is, personality, he's a big name in the game and obviously draws a bit of attention," Reynolds said.<\/p>\n

"Latrell's just got to stick to himself and worry about his own attitude and performances, he's a powerful figure in the game and no doubt he's got great support around him and people (that) genuinely care for him.<\/p>\n

"I haven't been there the last two years so I wouldn't know what's going on, I only hear what's been reported in the media and I didn't have JD (Demetriou) as a coach so I don't know the dynamics of what's going on behind the scenes. <\/p>\n

"He was always fantastic when I was there, as well as all the young boys, they were a good group of boys, they were tight knit. I'm not too sure exactly what's gone on in the last two years, I've got things to worry about up here now, my focus can't be down there it's definitely got to be up here."<\/p>\n

Reynolds added it'll be important for Mitchell to ignore the opinions around him after Clive Churchill's son Rodney launched a stinging attack on the fullback<\/a>. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's important for Latrell to stick solid to what he believes in," he said.<\/p>\n

"It's an opinion, not everyone thinks the same way and everyone has the right to an opinion. I've got people that don't like me or think different things of me, the moment I look sideways and take my focus off what's truly important (isn't good), it doesn't really matter.<\/p>\n

"Latrell's a great mate of mine, I respect what he does on the field and what he does off the field\ufeff, he just needs to remain solid to what he believes in."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
