When Logan Sargeant crossed the line to go 10th fastest at the end of the second part of qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix, he ended an incredible 30-year F1<\/a> drought for Americans.<\/p>\n

The last American to start an F1 race from inside the top ten was Michael Andretti when he started ninth at the 1993 Italian Grand Prix<\/a>.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Sargeant, driving for Williams, will tonight begin the race from 10th. He crashed in the final part of qualifying to bring out the first of two red flags.<\/p>\n

His teammate Alex Albon will start a sensational fourth.<\/p>\n

Sargeant, who is in his debut season and under pressure to keep his seat next year, reached Q3 with a strong last lap. But he went off into gravel moments into the last session and brought out a red flag.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou never want to leave the team with a damaged car, and one that\u2019s pretty damaged as well,\u201d said Sargeant. <\/p>\n

\u201cI touched the white line, which must have been wet, but there was no saving it. So I\u2019m sorry to the team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Red Bull<\/a> ace Max Verstappen<\/a> produced a typically strong final lap to take pole for his home race for the third straight year.<\/p>\n

The runaway championship leader will start in front of McLaren's Lando Norris. Verstappen will aim for a ninth straight win, equalling the record set for former Red Bull star Sebastian Vettel, who achieved the feat at the end of the 2013 season.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter five wins in a row, Seb texted me (and said) \u2018Well done (for) what you\u2019re doing at the moment, keep it up and you\u2019re going to do it,\u2019\u201d Verstappen said. <\/p>\n

\u201cNine wins in a row is something very impressive, and I never thought I would be already on eight. If it\u2019s possible tomorrow, of course I go for it but it\u2019s not something I have in the back of my head.\u201d<\/p>\n

Behind Verstappen and Norris comes George Russell in third, Albon and the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso.<\/p>\n

\"Oscar<\/p>\n

Verstappen's Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez will start seventh, his best lap more than a second slower than his teammates.<\/p>\n

Oscar Piastri will start eigth, ahead of the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc, who brought out the session's second red flag with a crash at turn nine, and Sargeant.<\/p>\n

Lewis Hamilton had a dismal run and starts 13th. But he was impeded during qualifying by AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda, whose three-place grid penalty following a stewards' decision dropped him to 17th on Sunday's grid.<\/p>\n

Soon after the session restarted after Sargeant's crash, Leclerc went ran wide and slid off into the barriers, bringing out another red flag. It was a bad mistake from a driver with five F1 wins, 27 podiums and 20 poles.<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry guys,\u201d Leclerc said, before pensively watching the end of qualifying while sat on a chair near the track.<\/p>\n

AlphaTauri\u2019s Liam Lawson starts from last place on his F1 debut after replacing the injured Daniel Ricciardo.<\/p>\n
