Andrew Johns<\/a>, Phil Gould<\/a> and Raiders<\/a> coach Ricky Stuart<\/a>, as expected, have unloaded\ufeff after the Bunker intervened late in Canberra's clash with Brisbane on Saturday night<\/a> to penalise Hudson Young<\/a>, deeming he had impeded Selwyn Cobbo<\/a> with an escort.<\/p>\n

The Broncos<\/a> led the Raiders 24-18 with six minutes remaining in the Canberra fixture when they opted for a short goal-line drop-out.\ufeff<\/p>\n

And although play continued after Cobbo and Jack Wighton challenged for an aerial ball, the Bunker stopped the game, rewound and ruled that Young had prevented Cobbo from catching the footy by placing his right arm across his chest.<\/p>\n

The Raiders pounced on the short goal-line drop-out and set up for an assault on the Broncos' try-line, only\ufeff for the Bunker to strip the hosts of their golden opportunity.<\/p>\n

And the Broncos capitalised, taking little time to extend their lead through a Reece Walsh field goal, before sealing the result with a Walsh try.<\/p>\n

The Broncos knocked the Panthers from the top perch of the ladder with a 29-18 win.<\/p>\n

"This one was so soft, and look, every team trains for it, every team runs attacking plays off the ball," Johns said on Nine's post-game coverage.<\/p>\n

"Penalise the obvious ones, (like) if they knock them over or they put an arm out. Look, he doesn't stop Selwyn from competing for the ball. This isn't a penalty. It's just nit-picking.<\/p>\n

"Stay out of the game, Bunker. Please, stay out of the game. Bunker comes in for try-scoring opportunities \u2014 that's it. They cannot be coming in on the game all the time."<\/p>\n

Gould hit back at the Bunker's claim that Young had hindered Cobbo's attempt to catch the ball.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Cobbo did what he was going to do. Cobbo was always going to jump up and tap the ball back with one hand," Gould said on the Nine broadcast.<\/p>\n

"I don't understand the penalty, I just don't. These escorts and penalties and challenging catchers and kickers are all so subjective. They really are.<\/p>\n

"He's only going up with one hand to tap the ball back and he did it."<\/p>\n

Johns\ufeff pleaded with referees to reduce their involvement in games.<\/p>\n

"So at this stage the game was 24-18 and the Raiders were coming to get them. Had some field position, had some momentum," said the eighth Immortal.<\/p>\n

"And that, a soft one like that, decides the game.<\/p>\n

"The referee's there to manage the game, not to decide who wins.<\/p>\n

"Tonight, look, I think the Broncos would have won, without doubt, but the sin-bin (of Jordan Rapana)<\/a> contributed and that one there stopped the Raiders from having any opportunity to win the game."<\/p>\n

Goud was not done with his spray.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffDo you think that if they didn't act on that, do you think at the end of the game there would have been anyone complaining about the escort on Cobbo where Canberra got the ball back?" said the former NSW Blues coach.<\/p>\n

\"Rapana<\/p>\n

"Definitely not. No one (would complain), one one."<\/p>\n

At the time of the incident, Gould blasted the Bunker's decision as "rubbish"\ufeff.<\/p>\n

Stuart fumed at the escort decision in his press conference.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It would've had to go to the Bunker to go to a black and white rule so every escort is going to be exactly the same as Hudson's, but why does it go against us?" Stuart said.<\/p>\n

"As it did here three weeks ago, off a short kick-off that got a football team back into the game competing against us. I forget the actual game itself, it happens every game, one of these escorts.<\/p>\n

\"Bizarre<\/p>\n

"I just don't understand why it happens to us. Well I do understand \u2014 that's the part I can't talk about.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI get brought in here, I've got the NRL ringing up my media manager saying, 'Why isn't he in this press conference?'. The reason I'm not coming into this press conference earlier, (why) I've got to keep you poor people waiting, is because I'm pissed off. People aren't doing their jobs properly."<\/p>\n

While the Broncos are now placed first on the ladder on 42 points, the Raiders are sitting in sixth on 32 points.<\/p>\n
