The NRL<\/a> has issued Panthers<\/a> rookie Soni Luke a bizarre warning after he appeared to touch Eels<\/a> lock J'maine Hopgood in the dying moments of their clash on Friday night.<\/p>\n

With seconds left on the clock, Hopgood ran into the Panthers line, including Luke, and went to ground.<\/p>\n

But before getting up, Luke appeared to reach past teammate James Fisher-Harris to touch Hopgood.<\/p>\n

Hopgood kicked out as Luke performed the act, and appeared to look in his direction before getting up to play the ball.<\/p>\n

Footage of the incident was posted to social media on Friday, where it caught the eye of the NRL Match Review Committee.<\/p>\n

In a statement to Wide World of Sports<\/em>, an NRL spokesperson said the committee had "issued the Panthers with a concerning act notice following the actions of Soni Luke".<\/p>\n

Former Sea Eagle John Hopoate rose to notoriety for similar acts in a 2001 game against the Cowboys.<\/p>\n

The pair are friends, having played together in the Panthers' premiership-winning NSW Cup side last season, before Hopgood was poached by the Eels for this season.<\/p>\n

The Panthers lost the clash 32-18, putting a dent in their hopes of winning the minor premiership.<\/p>\n
