While his brother starred in the NRL<\/a>, teenager Jermaine Pangai lay on his parent's couch playing video games.<\/p>\n

Weighing in at 150 kilograms, the then-15-year-old was far from the athlete he is now.<\/p>\n

Former Broncos<\/a> star turned Bulldogs<\/a> firebrand Tevita Pangai Junior<\/a> credits boxing for his younger brother's massive weight loss.<\/p>\n

Such was Jermaine's transformation that he was in line to fight for Australia at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. By the time he was fit to fight in England, he'd slashed 40kg.<\/p>\n

Tevita and Jermaine are set to fight on the same card as part of Stan's pay-per-view 'Battle of the Reef' bout in Townsville on October 7.<\/p>\n

They'll be part of an all-star card, which also features Jason Taumalolo, Junior Paulo, and Nelson Asofa-Solomona.<\/p>\n

"It means a lot, man," said Tevita of having Jermaine by his side.<\/p>\n

"We've been on this boxing journey for a while. He moved up to Brisbane with me in 2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"He was 150 kilos in Canberra, living with my parents playing Fortnite and eating ice cream\u00a0and I said 'You're coming up with me to Brisbane'.<\/p>\n

"And the plan wasn't to go and box, it was just to come get healthy. We use boxing as a way to get healthy and then we both fell in love with the sport.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Boxing saved our lives in a way and we want to do something we love every day."<\/p>\n

Jermaine isn't afraid to admit his adoration for Tevita.<\/p>\n

Eight years his junior, the NRL hopeful said he's long looked up to the rugby league star of Bulldogs and Broncos fame.<\/p>\n

"My brother's been a real big inspiration for me," said Jermaine.<\/p>\n

"He brought me over, he took me under his wing. He's also been like a great mentor to me as well as I've looked up to him, making me feel that I'm healthy, making sure that my mind space is right, and all those sort of things that just makes me feel happy for myself."<\/p>\n

Behind the scenes, there's been plenty of chat that the 19-year-old young gun packs as big a punch, if not bigger, than his 27-year-old NSW Blues brother.<\/p>\n

Even Tevita isn't keen to get in the ring with the left-hander.<\/p>\n

"We've had some sparring, but I don't really like to spar my brother," said Tevita.<\/p>\n

"He's a southpaw and he's big. While I was doing footy training he was boxing every day, he's far ahead of me.\u00a0<\/p>\n
