Latrell Mitchell<\/a> and Cody Walker<\/a> have earned the right to have a bigger say at South Sydney<\/a>, says NRL<\/a> great and former boxing world champion Anthony Mundine<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Amid the unrest that has engulfed the Redfern-based club<\/a>, which has seen the Rabbitohs in danger of missing the finals, assistant coach Sam Burgess left this week as speculation around the club and it's reported preferential treatment\ufeff of Mitchell and Walker made headlines.<\/p>\n

Speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald<\/a>, Mundine said the reason there's been such a fuss over Indigenous stars Mitchell and Walker, is due\ufeff to "the system not handling two black fellas being the best at what they do".<\/p>\n

"When you have 'sweat equity' that Latrell has got, and what Cody has got, and we're not talking over one or two years, we're talking over a few years, you deserve that respect and you deserve to have that certain degree of influence over a club," Mundine said.<\/p>\n

"I know JD [head coach Jason Demetriou], I played with him in the juniors at Hurstville, his father used to train my team, he is a solid man, a good coach, but he's also a people's person and knows how to judge and take care of people.<\/p>\n

"Obviously he sees the benefit of how he is playing it with Trell and Cody. He's the best man there because Latrell and Cody have the utmost respect for him. If JD says to Latrell, 'I need you to do this', Latrell will do it."<\/p>\n

Master coach Wayne Bennett was also asked about the drama at South Sydney during a press conference\ufeff, telling reporters he had no problems with either Mitchell or Walker and the Bunnies had not reached their potential "in a lot of people's minds".<\/p>\n

The former Souths coach\ufeff confirmed he had tried to snare Burgess as an assistant for the Dolphins last season.<\/p>\n

"I did want Sam here, we would have been great for Sam and Sam would have been great for us," Bennett said on Thursday.<\/p>\n

"Wiser people convinced him that wasn't going to be good for him, so he didn't come. He is a real man. He is someone who if you were in a tough place is the first bloke you'd want beside you.
