E\ufeffssendon<\/a> cult hero Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti will retire from the AFL<\/a> for a second time.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old crafty small forward will line up against Collingwood<\/a> on Friday night and then farewell the game properly, having previously retired last year but not afforded an official send-off.<\/p>\n

\ufeffMcDonald-Tipungwuti took time away from the Bombers last year for personal reasons, and then decided to end his career prematurely so he could travel Australia visiting Indigenous communities, including the Tiwi Islands where he is from.<\/p>\n

But he made a surprise return to the Bombers this year<\/a> and Friday will be his seventh game for the season.<\/p>\n

He sent the football world into raptures in round one this season when, in his return game, he was brought on as a sub and then kicked a goal for Essendon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\ufeffBombers coach Brad Scott called it "a great moment for Essendon fans and for our club".<\/p>\n

"I said to the playing group that of all the great champions who have come through the Essendon Football Club, it's actually hard to think of something who has made such an impression on our supporter base and on our club on so many different levels," Scott said on Thursday.<\/p>\n

"It's a celebration for Walla. The turnaround from where he was to where he is now has been incredible but by his own admission next year is just a bridge too far for him, both physically and mentally.<\/p>\n

"It will be an unbelievable opportunity for all Essendon people to get to the MCG and celebrate what's been an incredible career."<\/p>\n
